God is a very loving father who comforts us when we are unable to trust him because of the circumstances in our lives. I can testify to that because I experienced the loving arms of my father recently when I felt broken and unable to understand his will for my life. It started as a normal Wednesday, when my friends and I went to the house of God, as we normally do every Wednesday to intercede for the church and also pray over each other’s lives. We usually have soft worship music playing in the background as we talk to the Lord. What a blessed time we have! No one cares who is listening, but we all pour out our hearts to our father in heaven and later pray together over different prayer items. This is followed by encouraging words from different sisters, and amazingly, God always has a timely word for our situations.
During the most recent session of Wednesday prayers, there was this song which really touched my heart. The song was essentially about declaring that we would not go back to the lives we led, or rather, since God had taken us to a higher level financially, socially and spiritually, we were not going back to lead the poverty stricken lives we led, we were not going to be despised again and things were going to change for the better. How I agreed with that song! As I continued to seek the Lord’s face, I started declaring those words over my own life. I just wanted out of a life of struggle, I wanted to prosper, and I wanted to go to the next level. My heart just grew heavy within me suddenly and I was crying to the Lord as if my heart would break as I asked him why some things were taking so long to come. I asked him why those things seemed so impossible and why after all the fasting, praying, weeping and wailing, heaven still seemed shut!
Just like our loving father, he sent his angel in form of a friend of mine who lives thousands of miles away in Australia to comfort me. The following day, I was woken up by a phone call and it was my friend Janet. We had not talked for a long time, so we had a lot of catching up to do. In the course of sharing, I opened my heart to her and told her about my frustrations regarding some unanswered prayers. Janet is a woman who loves the Lord with all her heart and she gave me an encouragement that felt like God himself was soothing my inner pain. She said that the blessings of God take time, but when they come, they are perfect and they have no pain added to them. They come at the right time, the right way and in the right quantities. The things of the devil on the on the other hand are quick to come, but they never last, and they are never free. They have pain attached to them. I was so encouraged to hear the Lord speak through a friend of mine, reassuring me that He would come at his own time but it would be the real deal.
Do you feel like you are a woman in waiting too? You have prayed over your children for years but they will not change their ways? Have you prayed for your husband to give his life to God, and twenty years have passed but he will not put his beer bottle down and will not blink at the mention of Jesus name? Have you prayed over a health issue you have for so long, but the doctor’s reports keep getting worse and you don’t understand how a loving savior could watch you suffer so? Have you been fighting some giants for so long you have forgotten the joy of answered prayer? I will tell you what the Lord impressed on me in my waiting.
Psalm 27:13, 14 I am still confident of this: I will see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD- NIV.
God knows where you are and he knows what you need. Though it has taken time, he still remembers, even long after we have forgotten we ever prayed about some things. In his time, he will come and make everything beautiful – at the right time, in the right way, with the right quantity and you will not have to struggle or manipulate it. Do not give up hope, and do not give up praying, because every prayer is heard by our loving father.
May you be encouraged with the words of Isaiah 40: 28-31, which say:
Do you not know?
Have you not heard?
The LORD is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary,
and his understanding no one can fathom.
He gives strength to the weary
and increases the power of the weak.
Even youths grow tired and weary,
and young men stumble and fall;
But those who hope in the LORD
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint-NIV
To all the women in waiting, I say wait upon the Lord and do not lose your courage. He will come and save you and richly reward you. Be blessed
